York County player honored by PSAC with Top 10 Award

A former York County high school football standout has been honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with a Fall 2016 Top 10 Award.

South Western High School graduate Devon Ackerman was selected for the recognition for a second straight season.

The recipients are chosen and voted on by the league’s sports information directors. The PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition.

Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the Top 10 is given to five males and five females in each athletic season — fall, winter and spring.

The 6-foot, 1-inch, 285 pound Ackerman is a redshirt junior at East Stroudsburg University. He majors in biochemistry and has a cumulative 4.0 grade-point average.

He's a two-time, first-team Academic All-American who started all 11 games at center last season. He's started all 33 games over three seasons. He was a left guard in 2014 and 2015 before moving to center for 2016.
