Spring Grove High School graduate Hayley Norton is off to a sizzling start in her collegiate softball career.
Norton, a freshman at Saint Francis, has been named the Northeast Conference Softball Rookie of the Week for her performances through the first two weeks of the season.
The Red Flash, an NCAA Division I program from Loretto, Pennsylvania, is off to a 6-5 start after going 3-3 this past weekend at the East Carolina Pirate Clash.
Norton was also named the NEC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for her efforts at the Pirate Clash.
Norton has started all 11 games, with all the starts coming in the outfield. She ranks second on the team with a .368 batting average. Norton has 14 hits, including three doubles, three triples, two home runs, 15 RBIs and seven runs scored.
In her college debut, Norton made her first career hit count, putting it over the fence in center field in the second inning.
In a 10-2 win over Army, Norton went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a double and a triple.
This past weekend, Norton posted a two-hit, three-RBI performance in Saturday's win over East Carolina. With the bases loaded in the second inning, Norton tripled down the right field line to clear the bases. She scored two runs in that game.
In Sunday's loss to ECU, Norton had a triple and a home run, totaling five RBIs. Norton launched a two-run homer to left center in the first inning. She came up clutch again with the bases loaded in the second inning, tripling to center field to plate three runs.
Norton was the York-Adams Division I Player of the Year in 2015. She also earned all-state recognition.
