YORK COLLEGE: Men roll in lacrosse opener
The York College men's lacrosse team got its 2016 season off to an impressive start on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-2 road triumph over Eastern University at St. Davids in suburban Philadelphia.
Freshman Hunter Davis paced the Spartans with four goals and an assist, while senior Andrew Gamble added three goals and an assist. Other Yorkers with multiple-point games were Dillon Hannah (goal, assist) and Cameron Leech (two assists). Thomas Pfeiffer had the Spartans' other goal.
Caleb Abney got the win in goal, making seven saves. York's James Anderson also had a save for the Spartans, who outshot Eastern, 32-15.
York is coming off a 10-9 season, while Eastern was 15-4 in 2015.
The Spartans' home opener is 1 p.m. Saturday against Washington & Jefferson.

Women's basketball team rolls: The York College women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to cruise to a road win at Frostburg on Wednesday night in Maryland, 71-49.
West York High School graduate Sarah Shearer led the Spartans with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field. Dallastown grad Katie McGowan added 10 points. In all, 12 York College players scored.
The Spartans improved to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in the conference. Frostburg fell to 3-21 and 0-17.
Men's basketball team falls: A slow start to the first half was the deciding factor in the York College men’s basketball team’s 71-68 road loss to Frostburg State on Wednesday night.
The Spartans (5-12 CAC, 9-15 overall) trailed by 10 after the opening half, getting outscored 38-28 by the Bobcats (5-12 CAC, 7-17 overall). Matt Scamuffo had a game-high 27 points for the Spartans, knocking down four 3-pointers. Dalton Myers added 19 points for York.
