Mitch Atkins, two relievers hurl first-place York Revolution to win over Long Island Ducks
Mitch Atkins and two relievers pitched the York Revolution to a 2-1 Atlantic League triumph over the Long Island Ducks on Sunday.
The game was played in front of an announced crowd of 1,439 fans at PeoplesBank Park.
York improved to 4-2 and sits in first place in the Freedom Division second-half standings. Long Island, which plays in the Liberty Division, is also 4-2.
Atkins pitched the first seven innings and allowed six hits and one run to improve to 7-3. He lowered his ERA to 4.16. Junior Rincon pitched a scoreless eighth and Grant Sides pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his eighth save, dropping his ERA to 1.33.
Jared Mitchell (two hits, double, run scored) and Michael Burgess (two hits, double, RBI) paced York's offense.
The Revs won two of the three games in the series.
York next travels to Lancaster's Clipper Magazine Stadium for a four-game series starting Tuesday evening with a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. That's followed by single games at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 11 a.m. Thursday.
