Revs bring back Isaias Tejeda after strong 2016 season

  • Isaias Tejeda will return to York this season after hitting .356 with the Revs in 2016.
  • Tejeda led the Atlantic League in hitting last season in two separate stints with the Revs.
  • York also signed former first-round pick Ryan Dent and former Orioles farmhand Jarret Martin.

The York Revolution announced its three latest signings for the upcoming season on Wednesday, including one of its hottest bats from last year's team.

Isaias Tejeda belted his team-leading sixth homer of the season on Tuesday for York, a grand slam. The Revs still lost, 8-6.

The first signing made official during Wednesday night's edition of the "Revs Hot Stove Weekly" radio show on 1350 WOYK was Isaias Tejeda.

Tejeda played most of last year with the Revolution, but had it broken up into two separate stints. For the season, Tejeda hit .356, leading the Atlantic League in that category. He was signed in June by the Atlanta Braves in the midst of a 17-game hitting streak. He spent most of his time in the Braves' organization at High-A. He was returned to York by the Braves in the middle of August, continuing his team hitting streak, which stretched out to nearly 30 games.

Tejeda, 25, played mostly catcher for the Revs and, according to manager Mark Mason on the radio show, he anticipates Tejeda could get signed by another major league organization if he has the type of season he had last year.

The second signing York announced was newcomer Ryan Dent. The versatile infielder was a supplemental first-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2007, selected 62nd overall. He never made it past AAA in the minors, hitting .230 for his career with 36 home runs and 251 RBIs. Dent will be 28 years old by the time camp opens in April. He spent part of last season playing for Sussex County in the Canadian-American Association independent league, where he hit .266 in 21 games. Dent has experience at second, third and shortstop, and Mason said he plans to use him at all three positions this season.

The final new piece announced Wednesday was another new face, Jarret Martin. Martin was an 18th-round selection in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Martin is a lefty pitcher and holds a 20-38 career record and 4.56 ERA. He never made it past AA ball in the Orioles system and played in the Canadian-American Association last year, going 0-4 for three different clubs.
