Revs storm back in ninth for dramatic win at Sugar Land

• The York Revolution scored seven ninth-inning runs vs. Sugar Land.
• Five of those ninth-inning runs came with two outs.
• York improved to 8-8 second-half Atlantic League action.

It was shaping up to be a quiet flight home from Sugar Land, Texas, for the York Revolution.

Down to its final out of the game trailing 7-6 on Sunday night, York went on to score five runs with two outs in the top of the ninth to defeat the Sugar Land Skeeters, 11-7, and avoid a series sweep. The two-out rally was part of a much larger seven-run ninth for the Revs.

The furious rally got started for York (48-38) with two of the first three batters reaching base via walks. Then, a Brandon Chaves single loaded the bases, still with only one out in the inning. Joel Guzman brought York to within a run on a fielder's choice that also resulted in an error, making the game 7-6 Skeeters (45-43). However, it also brought the Revs to within an out of being swept in the three-game series.

Andres Perez, however, kept the inning alive by reaching on an error, which was followed by a game-tying RBI single by Kevin Rivers to level the score at 7-7. Bryan Pounds then put York ahead by a run with an RBI single. Then the game was broken open on two wild pitches that allowed two more runs to cross the plate, followed by an RBI single by Salvador Paniagua to make it 11-7. All told, 12 men came to the plate for the Revs in the inning and just one of the seven runs scored was earned.

Ricardo Gomez entered in the bottom of the ninth to finish to the comeback and move York back to .500 in the second half of the season at 8-8. The seven-run top of the ninth matched a team record for most runs scored in the ninth inning. York did it for the second time this season.

Michael Click earned the win by pitching the eighth, despite allowing two earned runs in his only inning of work. Revs' starter Tony Pena worked 6 1/3 innings of four-run ball, allowing nine hits, two walks and striking out five. Rivers and Chaves each led York with three-hit performances, while Perez, Pounds and Michael Rockett each notched two-hit games.

The Revs will return home to begin a series with the Somerset Patriots on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park.
