Tuesday night's game against the Bridgeport Bluefish started encouragingly for the York Revolution.
Unfortunately, it didn't end the same way.
York jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the game, but gradually saw the edge slip away before losing to Bridgeport, 6-5, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth at Harbor Yard.
Adron Chambers, who tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run, continued his heroics on the night with the game-winning single off Revs' reliever Manny Corpas to win the game. The loss drops York to 0-2 on the second half of the Atlantic League season, while the Bluefish improve to 2-0.
Jared Mitchell got the Revs on the board first in the game with an RBI single, scoring Brandon Chaves to make it 1-0 in the top of the third. That was the start of a four-run frame for York, which added runs courtesy of a two-run double by Joel Guzman in the next at-bat and then an RBI double by Andres Perez one batter later.
However, Bridgeport would cut its deficit in half in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice off of Revs' starter Ty'Relle Harris to make it 4-2 after three. The Bluefish then tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 4-4, before York stopped the run by scoring in the top of the sixth. Chaves brought home Kevin Rivers from third on a sacrifice fly to put the Revs ahead again, 5-4.
But all that did was set up Chambers for his heroics.
Harris left the game after six innings in line for the win, but wound up with a no decision, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and nine strikeouts. Luis Perdomo relieved him for the seventh, serving up the Chambers homer. Julio DePaula pitched a clean eighth and Corpas took the loss, only getting two outs in the ninth before allowing the winning run to cross.
Guzman led York with two RBIs, while Chaves and Alfredo Marte each had two-hit nights.
The Revs will look to avoid the sweep and get in the win column for the first time in the second half in Wednesday's final game of the three-game series against Bridgeport. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 p.m. at Harbor Yard.
