York opens second half with one-run loss to Bridgeport

• Travis Witherspoon drove in both York runs.

After securing a playoff spot by clinching the first-half Freedom Division championship on Thursday night, Mark Mason's York Revolution got right back to things on Monday afternoon to kick off the second half of the Atlantic League schedule.

However, it wasn't quite the start York had in mind, dropping a 3-2 defeat to the Bridgeport Bluefish at Harbor Yard.

The Revs' offense was held in check for much of the day, accumulating only six hits in the contest. York (40-31) fell behind Bridgeport (31-40) 1-0 after the Bluefish struck for a run in the bottom half of the second inning. The Revs immediately responded with a run of their own in the top of the third, thanks to Travis Witherspoon singling home Josh Wilson to level the game at 1-1.

York, however, was ultimately done in by Bridgeport scoring a run in each of the bottom of the third and fourth innings to build a 3-1 advantage.

The Revs did make it a 3-2 game after Witherspoon drove in his second run of the game in the top of the seventh, but any efforts to tie, or potentially take the lead, were squashed when York left runners on second and third to end the inning.

STROHECKER: York's first half was one to remember

Tony Pena took the loss on the mound for the Revs, pitching seven strong innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits, three walks and striking out one. Jose Arredondo struck out the side in the eighth in relief of Pena.

Witherspoon was the only member of the Revs to record a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4. He was responsible for bringing in both runs.

York and the Bluefish will continue their three-game series on Tuesday with a 7:12 p.m. start at Harbor Yard.
