Big inning sends Revolution past Bridgeport

That inning was the fourth, when York (20-16) erupted for six runs, allowing it to be in cruise control the rest of the game, resulting in a 7-3 win against Bridgeport at Harbor Yard.

With the game tied 1-1, the Revs loaded the bases with one out bringing Wilson Valdez to the plate. He cracked a ground-rule double that helped York gain a 3-1 lead. That was followed by Jose Constanza scoring on a wild pitch, a sac fly by Brandon Boggs and then Andres Perez capped things off with a two-run home run. When the inning finally came to an end, the Revs sent all nine batters to the plate, scoring six runs, despite only recording three hits, and held a 7-1 advantage.

The York pitching staff made it hold up the rest of the way, only allowing two runs, one in the bottom half of the fourth and then another one in the sixth.

Bridgeport got the game's scoring started in the bottom of the first, but instantly gave the run right back to the Revs in the top half of the second. Salvador Paniagua roped an RBI single to tie things at 1-1, scoring Perez from second.

York starting pitcher Rommie Lewis lasted five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. The victory improves his record to 9-8 on the year. Reliever Ty'Relle Harris pitched three innings in relief of Lewis, allowing one unearned run on three hits, while striking out four. Stephen Penney nailed down the win with a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a walk and recording a strikeout.

Offensively for the Revs, both Valdez and Perez posted two-RBI games, while Eric Patterson had a team-high three hits. That performance was followed by Perez and Paniagua, who each had two-hit nights.

With the win, York took three out of four games on the road from the Bluefish and, coupled with a Lancaster Barnstormers loss on Sunday afternoon, puts the Revs back within three games of first place in the Freedom Division second-half standings.

York will now travel to Southern Maryland for a four-game series beginning on Monday. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium.
