Revs drop to 1-2 in Atlantic League second half with loss to Barnstormers
The Lancaster Barnstormers topped the York Revolution 6-2 in their series rubber match on Sunday evening at Santander Stadium.
The Revs slipped to 1-2 in the Atlantic League second half and will look to rebound when they welcome the Sugar Land Skeeters to town for the first of a four-game series on Monday night.
Rommie Lewis got the start for the Revs vs. Lancaster's Bryan Woodall. For the first four innings both starters were locked in a pitchers' duel.
Lancaster broke through in the fifth on a Juan Apodaca fielder's choice. In the sixth, Lancaster outfielder Kent Matthes, making his Barnstormers debut, launched a solo shot over the Arch Nemesis to give the visiting team a 2-0 edge.
It all unraveled for Lewis (5-7) and the Revs in the seventh. The Barnstormers got four runs in the inning off of a flurry of base hits. Apodaca drove home the first run with a single, followed by a Yusuke Kajimoto RBI line drive base hit. Mark Mason went to his bullpen and summoned closer Josh Judy, who was promptly greeted by Matthes, who launched a double to left-center, pushing the Lancaster lead to 6-0. Matthes picked up an RBI on the play with the second run scoring on an error.
Woodall (2-4) held the Revs at bay all evening, throwing six scoreless innings and striking out eight to earn the victory.
York's Nick Ferdinand launched his seventh homer of the year, a two-run bomb with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Notes: Monday, Frank Gailey (1-0, 0.00) gets the nod for the Revs, while Matt Wright (4-2, 3.53) takes the hill for the Skeeters on Wrestling Night, highlighted by an appearance by Olympic gold medalist and NCAA wrestling champion Cael Sanderson. ... Ferdinand's home run was his fourth to clear the Arch Nemesis in left field and marked the 200th by a Revs batter all-time to clear the tallest wall in pro baseball. ... The War of the Roses series is now even at 9-9 through 18 of the season's 28 meetings. .. Lewis suffered his first loss against the Barnstormers this season, entering Sunday's outing 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA in four starts. ... Ty'Relle Harris made his York debut with a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Beau Vaughan tossed a scoreless ninth and has allowed just two runs in 8.2 innings since returning from injury.
