Freedom Division wins Atlantic League All-Star Game

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. —The Freedom Division defeated the Liberty Division in come-from-behind fashion 5-1 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the 18th annual Atlantic League All-Star Game on Wednesday night.

Cody Eppley (1-0) of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs picked up the victory, retiring all three batters he faced, striking out one. Long Island Ducks pitcher Ryan Kussmaul (0-1) suffered the loss, tossing one-third of an inning, surrendering four runs on four hits while walking one batter.

The Liberty Division got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning off Freedom Division Starting Pitcher Jake Hale on an RBI single by hometown favorite Wellington Dotel, scoring Lew Ford of the Long Island Ducks. Dotel also won the Home Run Contest in front of the home faithful earlier in the evening.

The Freedom Division took the lead for good in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run double by Travis Scott of the Sugar Land Skeeters off Kussmaul, plating Lance Zawadzki of the Lancaster Barnstromers and Brandon Boggs of the York Revolution, and the visitors held on for the victory and bragging rights for the remainder of the 2015 season. Scott's game-winning hit also earned him the Most Valuable Player recognition of the ballgame.
