BASEBALL, Aug. 6: Conrads wins battle against Hallam, advances to Susquehanna League semis
On the road in the final contest in a three-game series, Conrads brought the offensive firepower needed to advance to the Susquehanna League semifinals.
A pair of Conrads batters had three-RBI performances as the team outlasted Hallam in a game that saw a combined 13 runs scored in the fifth inning.
Conrads 13, Hallam 8: At Hallam, Alex Weakland led the visitors to the victory by going 2 for 4, including three RBIs, and two runs scored. Nolan Boushell went 2 for 4, including a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Trey Pridgen went 3 for 4, including a double, and three RBIs, Rick Thompson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, one RBI, Kevin Keesey went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while Joe Yourgal went 1 for 2 with two runs scored, one RBI, two walks.
For Hallam, Zach Zambito went 3 for 3, including a double, two RBIs, one run scored, Angel Matias went 2 for 3 with one run scored, one RBI. Matt Ruth connected for a double. With the win, Conrads (18-19) now moves on to the semifinals and will face an opponent-to-be-determined with the series beginning on Tuesday, August 13.
Stoverstown 6, Mount Wolf 4: At Stoverstown, Xavier Bonilla led the home team to the victory by connecting for the go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to break the 4-4 deadlock.
For the game, Bonilla went 2 for 2 with three RBI, and two walks. Teammates Dylan Spangler went 2 for 2 with one RBI, while started Jay Yeater picked up the win on the mound, throwing four innings and relief pitcher Levi Krause threw the final three innings to pick up the save.
For Mount Wolf, Jesse Sargen went 2-3, including a double, one run scored, Steve Pokopec went 2 for 4 with one RBI, while Grant Hoover had a two-run single in the second inning. With the win, Stoverstown finishes regular season play at (22-5-2) and won their final seven regular season games.
They will play East Prospect in the York County Championship series starting Saturday with game one at Stoverstown with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch. With the loss, Mount Wolf finishes regular season play at (17-12-0). Mount Wolf will play a first round Central League playoff game beginning on Saturday with an opponent-to-be-determined.
Manchester 12, Vikings 1: At Manchester, Chris Beaudoin led the home team to the victory by going 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring two runs, and adding one RBI. Teammates Spencer Rhoads went 2 for 3 with one RBI, while starting pitcher Justin Wetzel threw five innings, while striking out five and walking one.
With the win, Manchester finishes regular season play at (16-12-1), while the Vikings finish at (18-11-0). Both teams will play in the first round of the Central League playoffs beginning on Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
Glen Rock 7, Dillsburg 2: At Glen Rock, Dan Rhodes led the home team to the victory by going 2 for 4, including a homer, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Teammates Conor Miller went 2 for 2, including a double, one RBI, while Kevin Kopas went 1 for 2, including a double, two runs scored and two walks.
With the win, Glen Rock finishes regular season play with a record of (20-7-2) and finished second to give them a first round playoff bye. Dillsburg finishes at (7-21-1) and did not qualify for the playoffs, which ends its season.
Jefferson 1, Pleasureville 0 (forfeit): At Jefferson, the Titans won the home game by forfeit and finished with a record of (17-12-0) and now moves on to the first round playoffs and will face Mount Wolf at home in game one on Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch. Pleasureville (6-23-0) did not qualify for the playoffs and ends its season.
