BASEBALL PLAYOFFS: Hallam forces Game 3 in Susquehanna semifinal series vs. York Township
- Hallam beat York Township 6-2 in a Susquehanna League baseball playoff game on Thursday.
- The best-of-three semifinal series is now tied at 1-1.
- The third and deciding game in the series is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Township.
Hallam got even against York Township on Thursday evening.
Behind the fine pitching of Matt Ruth and Zach Zambito, the Express earned a 6-2 triumph over visiting Township.
That squared the best-of-three Susquehanna League semifinal series at 1-1. Game 3 is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Township.
Ruth went five innings to get the win, allowing one earned run and four hits. He struck out six and walked three. Zambito finished up by pitching two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
Alex Tucci (three hits, RBI), Xavier Bonilla (two hits, homer, two RBIs, run), Dan Wecker (two hits, two RBIs, run), Joe Pietrobone (two hits, run), Angel Matias (double, run) and Ruth (hit, two runs) led Hallam's 11-hit attack.
Stoverstown 9, Mount Wolf 0: At Stoverstown, Chris Mattison led the offense for the home team in the playoff win by connecting for a solo homer in the sixth inning and a two-run double in the fifth. He finished with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Also for Stoverstown, Joe Capobianco connected for two hits, including a double, with two runs scored and one RBI; Levi Krause had two doubles and two runs scored; Zach Schuler had a two-run single to cap off a three-run second inning; and starting pitcher Kyle Raubenstine threw five shutout innings, allowing three singles.
Regular-season champion Stoverstown leads the best-of-three semifinal series 1-0 and will play at Mount Wolf at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for Game 2
