LOCAL BASEBALL: Avery Strayer scatters 13 hits in complete-game win for York Township
York Township rallied from a 2-0 deficit after 4 1/2 innings to earn a 3-2 eight-inning triumph over visiting Felton on Thursday evening.
No. 2 seed Township now has 1-0 lead in the best-of-three, first-round Susquehanna League playoff series.
Township scored the winning run in the bottom of the eight on a hit batter and three walks. Austin Martinez bases-loaded walk plated the winner.
Avery Strayer pitched a complete game, scattering 13 hits, to get the win. He allowed one earned run and one walk, while striking out 4. He threw 131 pitches.
Derek Pitzer had three hits for Township, while Max Naill added two hits. Martinez finished with two RBIs.
Patrick Daugherty, Mike Godfrey, Brady Taylor, Adam Whitman and Evan Paules had two hits apiece for Felton. Daugherty doubled, while Whitman scored a run and Taylor had an RBI.
Felton's Adam Whitman pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, but took the loss.
Game 2 is Saturday at Felton.
Hallam 5, Jacobus 3: At Hallam, Xavier Bonilla led the home team to the victory by connecting for a double and a homer. He also collected two RBIs.
Also for Hallam, Dan Wecker had two hits, Giorgio Butts had two RBIs and Matt Ruth threw a complete game on the mound, striking out five, walking three and allowing two earned runs.
For Jacobus, Alex Zelger had two hits, including a double, while Jaron Shimmel had two singles.
Hallam takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three first-round playoff series, Game 2 is Saturday at Jacobus.
Stewartstown 7, Conrads 4: At Conrads, James Klingerman led the visitors to the victory by connecting for three hits, including a homer, and collecting two RBIs and two runs scored.
He also started the game on the mound, throwing 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win, striking out five, walking four and allowing four hits.
Also for Stewartstown, Justin Sommer had two hits, while Cody Brittain and Jesse Brittain each doubled.
For Conrads, Travis Hake homered and collected three RBIs, while Spencer Butz had two hits.
Stewartstown takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three, first-round playoff series, with Game 2 Saturday at Stewartstown.
Jefferson 5, Manchester 1: At Manchester, Brian Bossom led the visitors to the victory by throwing a complete game, striking out two and walking two.
Also for Jefferson, Colin Porter had two hits and one run scored. For Manchester, Chris Biechler had two hits with one run scored. Jefferson improved to 14-13-1 with 43 points, while Manchester fell to 13-16-2 with 41 points.
Pleasureville 6, Dillsburg 1: At Pleasureville, Andrew Parks pitched six innings of one-run, four-hit ball to get the win.
Clint Bohn pitched a shutout seventh.
Scott Ream had two hits and an RBI for the Hawks. Devin Dellinger and Beau Burris each scored two runs. Dellinger had two walks and a hit. Justin Tate had two hits for Dillsburg, while Toby Sponseller homered.
