The York Revolution celebrates its 2017 Atlantic League title, the third in franchise history.
The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball recently announced plans to establish a new franchise in High Point, North Carolina, for the 2019 season.
High Point Baseball, Inc., was unanimously approved for membership by the league’s board of directors last week. The team will play its games in a ballpark to be built to league specifications. More details about the club will be made available at a later date.
“We are excited to welcome High Point (North Carolina) to the Atlantic League in 2019,” said league president Rick White in a news release. “The High Point community has made significant progress toward hosting Atlantic League baseball. The club will occupy a new state-of-the-art ballpark which will be the centerpiece of a High Point downtown redevelopment project.”
The Atlantic League will begin its 21st season of play on Thursday, April 26, in York, when the defending champion York Revolution hosts the Lancaster Barnstormers. The league’s other six clubs will open the season the next day.
The Atlantic League has eight teams for 2018, including the Road Warriors, who will play all of their games on the road. In 2019, the High Point franchise is expected to replace the Road Warriors.
