Susquehanna League hands out scholarships to young baseball players

The Susquehanna League handed out scholarships to some of its top young baseball players on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The Susquehanna League recently handed out the Gentzler-Smith Scholarships. Pictured from left are: Ryan Smith, James Striebig, league president Tim Poff and Avery Strayer. Absent from the picture in Michael Androconis. Smith, Striebig, Strayer and Androconis won the scholarships.

The league celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Gentzler-Smith Scholarship, which is awarded to players who are pursuing a post-high-school education.

This year’s recipients are: Ryan Smith, James Striebig, Avery Strayer and Michael Androconis. Each recipient was awarded a $500 scholarship.

The Gentzler-Smith Insurance Company has been a supporter of the scholarship since its inception in 1993.

On the same night, the fifth annual Shawn P. McCullough Scholarship was awarded by Yorktowne Roofing and Siding, Inc., in memory of Shawn P. McCullough, a 1984 graduate of Dallastown Area High School. This year’s recipients are Luke Howard and Jonathan Snyder. Each recipient was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
