Red Land cousins Luke and Cole Wagner both commit to Georgia for baseball
No point in waiting long it appears. Cousins Luke and Cole Wagner announced their commitments Sunday to play baseball at Georgia.
Cole, the breakout star of the 2015 Little League World Series for a Red Land squad that won the U.S. championship, is a freshman this year at Red Land High School. Luke helped the Patriots as a freshman last season to the District 3 playoffs.
Both are southpaw pitchers with fastballs clocked in the high 80s, according to Perfect Game. The site also said Cole had interest from Clemson, Kentucky, South Carolina and Wake Forest. Luke's bio included interest from those schools plus Penn State, Auburn, Louisville, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Their fathers, identical twins Bret and Kyle Wagner, won Red Land's lone PIAA championship before committing to Wake Forest. The pair were selected in the MLB draft in the 1990s.
Luke batted .302 and threw 26 innings as a freshman with the Patriots. He went 2-1 with a 0.81 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
Cole is just two weeks removed from playing in the prestigious Perfect Game Select Baseball Festival in Fort Myers, Florida.
Red Land catcher Jared Payne, a junior, is a verbal commit to Kentucky, giving the Patriots three Southeastern Conference-bound players.
