Glen Rock's Summer Britcher was the top American finisher on Sunday in a World Cup women's luge race.

Britcher, who captured two World Cup medals last weekend, took seventh Sunday, Dec. 3, in a World Cup race in Altenberg, Germany. Britcher was also part of an American relay team that finished seventh.

The Susquehannock High School graduate is sixth in the overall World Cup women's luge standings. Britcher is trying to earn a berth in a second straight Olympics after finishing 15th in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Britcher had a consistent week of training, but it didn’t translate into the opening heat.

“I saved my worst run of the week for race day,” she said on the USA Luge website after her first attempt concluded.

Britcher was eighth at the break and moved up one spot in the final leg.

Erin Hamlin, of Remsen, New York, headed to her fourth Olympics, settled for ninth place, while Emily Sweeney, of Suffield, Connecticut. was 11th.

In the team relay, Britcher had the second fastest women’s leg and teamed with Taylor Morris, of South Jordan, Utah, and the doubles team of Jake Hyrns, of Muskegon, Michigan, and Anthony Espinoza, of Park City, Utah.

The German relay team set a track record time of 2 minutes, 22.644 seconds. The U.S. team finished in 2:24.441.

Natalie Geisenberger, the defending Olympic champion, won the women's title in 1:44.241. Tatjana Huefner was second in 1:44.398, followed by Dajana Eitberger 1:44.733. Britcher clocked in at 1:44.951.

Geisenberger (370 points) is 70 points ahead of Huefner in the overall World Cup standings. Eitberger is third at 228.

Sweeney is fifth at 204 points, followed by Britcher at 202. Hamlin is ninth with 145.

The World Cup now comes to North America for events in Calgary from Dec. 8-9 (Friday and Saturday) and Lake Placid Dec. 15-16 (Friday and Saturday) to end the Olympic qualification period.

USA Luge will announce its 10 Olympic nominees for the Pyeongchang Winter Games on the evening of Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. in the conference center in Lake Placid.
