A number of local shooters excelled during the 83rd annual Pennsylvania Skeet Championships, held on Aug. 23-25, in McConnellstown.

Various participants from the York and Adams Fish and Game Association competed in numerous events. Following are some of the more notable results:

►28 gauge: R. Dennis Lehman became the 28-gauge state champion and earned  the gold metal by defeating five other resident competitors in a shoot-off. Lehman also was named the senior champion in the 28-gauge event. Lehman now has earned five state champion titles in his shooting career.

►12 gauge: Tom Hillard broke 100 out of 100 targets to finish first in A class; Matt Sanders broke 99 targets and finished fifth in the AAA division; and John Stough broke 97 targets to finish fourth in C class.

►20 gauge: John Stough broke 100 targets to finish third in the entire state, earning him a spot on the winners' podium and a bronze metal. Stough also was the senior champion in the 20-gauge event. 

►High overall event: Matt Sanders broke 389 of 400 targets to finish second in the sub sub senior division. John Stough broke 378 of 400 to finish second in C class.

►Doubles: Daniel Frantz broke 89 targets out of 100 to finish fifth in the veterans division.

►410 event: Matt Sanders broke 94 targets to finish seventh in the AA division.
