GETTYSBURG — After finishing second by one second in last season’s York-Adams League Girls’ Cross Country Championship Run, Dallastown’s Emily Schuler left no doubt Tuesday at Gettysburg.

The junior led the Wildcats to a first-place team finish by finishing 10 seconds ahead of any other girls' runner.

“It felt really good,” Schuler said. “(Eastern York’s) Maddie McLain graduated last year, so I knew I had a chance. But it feels really good to actually accomplish it.”

Schuler finished the 3.1-mile race in 18 minutes, 39 seconds, ahead of Red Lion’s Kiersten Lloyd (18:49) and Northeastern’s Bella Treglia (19:10). Her average mile pace was exactly 6:00, which she said was a coincidence.

“No, it wasn’t (my goal). That’s kind of cool, though,” she said. “I didn’t have a time goal. I just wanted to run a smart race, and Kiersten has a really good mile and 800 kick. I knew I had to get some separation going into that last mile so she didn’t outkick me.”

Dallastown victory: The Wildcats, who won the York-Adams League girls' championship last season, had a five-runner score of 41. Junior Allison Myers, senior Carly Gable and freshman Lydia Tolerico all ran sub-20:00, giving the Wildcats four runners inside the top 10. Myers (19:32), Gable (19:51) and Tolerico (19:59) finished sixth, eighth and 10th, respectively.

“(The win) shows how much effort we’ve put in and how special this group of girls is,” Schuler said. “We all have each other’s support, and it’s really cool that it all came together with a win today.”

Dallastown head coach Doug Moyer, gave credit to sophomore Helen Zardus, who was injured earlier this season and finished 16th for the Wildcats’ final scoring spot.

“I think the biggest thing was the girl who was fifth for us has been injured,” Moyer said. “She’s only been running three or four weeks, so I have to give her credit for bouncing back and doing well. They all ran well. Everybody ran a season best, so it was a great day.”

Northeastern finished second with an 80 points, while Gettysburg took bronze with a 114.

York Suburban wins boys’ race: The defending state runner-up York Suburban Trojans handily won the boys’ race, placing three runners in the top 10.

Senior Jarrett Raudensky, who finished second in last year’s race, led the Trojans with a third-place finish in 16:48.

“He ran well,” Suburban head coach Ron Herman said. “He did what he had to do, which is lead the team. He’s the leader of the team, and he has been all year.”

Raudensky was followed by senior Camden Shaffer (16:57) and freshman Cole Adams (17:00). Shaffer finished seventh and Adams placed eighth.

Junior Jordan Ohl and freshman Shea Walsh rounded out the Trojans’ top five, placing 16th and 27th, respectively.

“I think the team ran pretty well today,” Raudensky said. “Everybody put in their part, and we had some kids flourish as the postseason kicks off. … We have a few freshmen who have really picked it up this year, and we have seniors stepping up, too.”

Herman said the team’s success has been a pleasant surprise following a large graduating class from last season.

“From last year’s team that finished second at states, I wasn’t sure how this team was going to gel this year,” Herman said. “I’m just gleeful that they came as far as they have.”

Hirneisen wins boys’ race: Gettysburg junior Andrew Hirneisen took the top spot in the boys' race, finishing in 16:41 on his home course. He crossed the finish line five seconds ahead of Northeastern’s James Herman.

“I think I ran really well. I felt good through the second mile and gutted it out at the end,” he said. “This is the best this course has been this season. It gives you a tremendous advantage when you have an invitational at your home course.”

Hirneisen, who finished 15th in the race last year, has lofty goals for the rest of this season.

“My end goal by this season is to get states for (Class) 3-A,” he said. “This is really good prep for me, and it was a good day for me overall.”

Regular season champs: The York-Adams League regular season champions were announced after the meet.

Central York won the boys’ Division I title, while Dallastown claimed the girls’ crown. Suburban was the boys’ D-II champ, with Gettysburg winning the D-II girls’ title. In D-III, York Catholic swept the crowns, winning both the boys’ and girls’ regular-season championships.
