On a scorching-hot day at Briarwood East Golf Course on Monday, Michael DeRose survived a 27-hole marathon to win the Bob Blecher Junior Golf Championship Boys' 15-18 Blue Division.

DeRose finished with a 7-over-par 116 total in the double-points York County Junior Golf Association event. It was the second official stop of the YCJGA season.

Taking second at 119 was Andrew Roberts, while Brandon Simmons was third, 13 shots back.

DeRose took the lead in the season-long YCJGA Boys' 15-18 Blue point standings with 39 points, followed by Nicholas Hooper at 31 and Roberts at 30.

In the Girls' Division, after finishing second in her 18-hole debut, 12-year-old Taylor Hicks shot an 84 to pick up her first win. Cailey Roman took second at 85. Last week's winner, Lillian McNally, was third at 89. Hicks leads the Girls' Division point standings at 40, followed by McNally at 33 and Makensy Knaub at 25.

In the Boys' 15-18 White Division, Central York High School's Alex Gekas picked up his second YCJGA win in a row, shooting a 79 after starting his round birdie-birdie. Taking second was Jordan Staub at 86, followed by Cole Sevick at 87. Gekas leads the division in points at 45, followed by Staub at 29 and Joshua Rickrode at 20.

In the Boys' 14-and-Under Green Division, last year's champion, Trevor Snyder, picked up his first win of the season at 84. Jimmy Hook IV was second, one shot back, followed by Jesse Strine at 92. Snyder is the division's point leader at 40, followed by Hook at 27 and Strine at 22.

In the Nine-Holers Division, current points leader Alexander Beckley picked up his first win of the season with a 39.. Finishing second, two shots back, was Lawson Leeper. Mason Tucker was third at 43. Beckley is the division's points leader at 39, followed by Leeper at 35 and Tucker at 28.

The next YCJGA event of the season is the double-points Mid-Summer Classic at Out Door Country Club on Monday, June 25.

GOLF NOTES

Khayat-Tarasovic winners: The 30th Eddie Khayat & George Tarasovic Celebrity Golf Classic, helping York County Special Olympics, was held at Out Door Country Club on Monday.

The first-place team, with a 58, included: Shawn Stine, Matt DeRose, Steve Merrick, Denny Lankford, Frank Bolick and Tim George.

The second-place team at 59 included: Charles Calkins, Tom Sponaugle, Barry Clair, Rex Feldmiller, Tom Strickler and Keith Urgo.

March has hole-in-one at Honey Run: Chad March had a hole-in-one at Honey Run Golf Club recently.

He aced the 146-yard 12th hole with a 7-iron.

It was witnessed by Fitch Tillison, Jeff Spangler and Brian Horner.
