SportsRadio 94.1 WIP host and former Philadelphia Eagles fullback Jon Ritchie was arrested on DUI charges early Friday morning, hours after an estimated 700,000 Birds fans descended on Center City to attend an Eagles parade to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl championship.
According to a criminal docket filed in Philadelphia Municipal Court, Ritchie, 43, faces charges for DUI, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was released without bail, and his next court date is scheduled for March 14.
In 2016, Ritchie ran in the Republican primary to fill the seat vacated by state Sen. Pat Vance. He finished second behind state Sen. Mike Regan, who ultimately won the general election. In York County, that district includes an area that stretches from Fairview Township in the north to Jackson Township in the south. The district also includes portions of Cumberland County.
WIP referred all inquiries to Entercom, the station’s parent company. They have yet to respond to a request for comment.
The Cumberland Valley High School graduate wasn’t on air Friday during his WIP midday show, which he has co-hosted since October 2016 alongside Joe DeCamara. Former Eagles offensive lineman Tra Thomas filled in for Ritchie on Friday.
Ritchie was drafted in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, where he was a starter for five seasons. Born and raised in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Ritchie signed with the Eagles in 2003. He suffered what ended up being a career-ending knee injury during Week 4 of the 2004 season and retired from the NFL to begin a career in sports media.
Prior to joining WIP, Ritchie co-hosted a nationally syndicated late night radio show with comedian Artie Lang, and was a color commentator on DirecTV’s Fantasy Zone Channel, part of the station’s NFL Sunday Ticket.
During his college career, Ritchie played for both Michigan and Stanford.
At Cumberland Valley, he led the Eagles to a state championship.
