York County runners take note.

Registration for the York Road Runners Club Winter Series is open.

The series includes races at eight locations around York County from Sunday, Nov. 12, through Saturday, March 3.  Each event features a primary race, which can vary in distance from 5 kilometers to 10 miles. Each primary race is preceded by a 1-mile race.

Participants will compete for points. Series points are tracked and male and female awards are presented to the top three in each age group at a ceremony at the conclusion of the series.

"We are very excited for this year’s Winter Series," said Heather Roe, co-director for the series. "The series has been running 30-plus years and we take great pride in continuing with tradition while adding a few updates each year. This series offers courses for runners of all abilities and ages."

York Road Runners Club membership is not required for registration, but members do receive a discounted series registration. More information and a link for registration can be found at yorkroadrunners.com.

The series has secured the services of US Roadrunning for chip timing and results management. Every registered participant will receive a unique racing bib which they will be responsible to bring to each event. That bib will have a durable timing chip affixed to its back side and will electronically record the participant’s race time as they cross the finish line of each event.

"The series has survived for years on manual timing," said Jason Heilman, the co-director of the series. "But with the growth of participants and advancement of technology, manual timing was due to be replaced. Our relationship with US Roadrunning will benefit series participants with timeliness, accuracy and availability of results."

The series has grown in popularity over the years. Last year saw record crowds and organizers are hopeful to set new records this year.

The 2017-2018 race schedule is as follows: Nov. 12, Dover 10-Miler; Nov. 26, Spring Valley 4-Miler; Dec. 16, Dallastown Wildcat 10K; Dec. 30, John Rudy Rail Trail 5M; Jan. 13, Indian Rock 10K; Jan. 27, Jacobus 5-Miler; Feb. 10, Springettsbury 10K; and March 3, Northeastern 5K.
