Bob Ruby enjoys successful weekend during York Open event at Royal Manchester Golf Links
- Bob Ruby won the York Open Senior Championship at Royal Manchester.
- Ruby shot 69 and won in a playoff over John Howson.
- Ruby also finished as the top amateur in the York Open, which ended Saturday.
It took a few extra holes, but Bob Ruby eventually captured the York County Amateur Golf Association's York Open Senior Championship at Royal Manchester Golf Links on Sunday, Oct. 8.
After Ruby and John Howson each carded 3-under-par 69s in regulation, Ruby was able to birdie the third playoff hole to collect the victory.
Ruby was representing Honey Run, while Howson was playing out of Quail Valley.
Lee Flemister finished in third with a 71. Don Dimoff and Rob Shuey tied for fourth with matching 72s.
A day earlier, Ruby finished as the top amateur player in the YCAGA's York Open, also held at Royal Manchester. The York Open was open to amateurs and professionals alike, with a purse of $7,500.
Braden Shattuck, from Concord Country Club, won the event by carding a two-day total 133 (67, 66). Zac Oakley (70, 71) and Brian Bergstol (69, 72) finished tied for second with totals of 141.
Ruby was in the lead after firing a first-round 66, but followed it up the next day with a 76 to finish in fourth place at 142.
Gotwalt cards an ace at Briarwood: Robert Gotwalt sank a hole-in-on on Sunday, Oct. 8, at Briarwood Golf Club's East Course.
Gotwalt used a 5-hybrid to accomplish the feat on the 144-yard, par-3 eighth hole.
His playing partners that day were Barb Gotwalt, Brian Hunter and Frank Warner.
