After a monthslong search, the York City School District has named a new athletic director shortly before the school year is set to begin.

Jeffrey White was approved by the board without discussion at the district's regular voting meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 16. His first day is yet to be determined, according to the board agenda.

Details are scant on White, but he has previously worked at the Reading School District, according to school board member David Moser.

Several school board members refused to comment on White, saying details about him were shared during executive session and therefore not public information.

The development comes a week after public criticism from former New Hope athletic director Sam Sutton, who claimed he received an offer for the position but had the offer rescinded shortly before a board vote in July.

White declined to comment until he spoke with district administrators.
