Top young wrestlers set to compete in York this weekend

Some of the top young wrestlers in the Middle Atlantic region will converge on York County this weekend.

Nearly 2,400 visitors are expected to arrive in the area for the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association’s 2017 Western Regional Championship, according to a news release from the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

AAU wrestlers from around the region will compete in the Utz Arena at the York Expo Center this Saturday and Sunday for the two-day event. The YCCVB estimates it will generate nearly $1 million in economic benefits for the community. The event was brought to York through the YCCVB's Sport York program.

Saturday’s competition starts with the bantam and junior wrestlers, with midget and intermediate wrestlers following. Sunday’s slate includes advanced and elite wrestlers. Action starts at 8 a.m. both days. Admission is $10 for adults each day and $5 for students.
