Former Red Lion High School football standout Andrew Zeller is the latest addition to York Area Sports Night guest list.
The 53rd annual program is set for Thursday, Feb. 9, at Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center.
After leaving Red Lion, Zeller went on to a solid career as an offensive lineman at the University of Maryland.
The 6-foot, 5-inch, 300-pound Zeller started all 12 games for the University of Maryland as a senior in 2015 at right guard. He helped pave the way for an improved Terps' running game, which averaged 182.5 yards per game on the ground, the team's best output since 2003. He also started every game for Maryland in 2014 and appeared in every game in 2013. Overall, he had 31 starts at Maryland.
Zeller was not drafted by an NFL team, but he did sign a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions in the 2016 preseason, but he didn't make the team.
During his high school career at Red Lion, he played a major role in the Lions reaching the District 3 Class 4-A finals in 2010, when he was a senior two-way standout. He was a second-team all-state selection that year in 4-A. Defensively, he recorded 67 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks, as a senior.
Zeller becomes the third announced guest for Sports Night. The first two guests were Hall of Famers — baseball relief pitcher Bruce Sutter and NFL defensive lineman John Randle.
Details: The Sports Night program will feature a public celebrity reception and silent auction from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the celebrities up close, gather autographs and bid on sports memorabilia to benefit the York Area Sports Night scholarship program. There will also be an exclusive celebrity dinner with a live auction from 6:15 p.m. until 8 p.m. for celebrities, hosts, sponsors and guests.
Both events will take place at the Terrace Room at Heritage Hills.
In a departure from previous years, there will not be evening celebrity reception following the celebrity dinner.
