Central York rolls to easy 10-0 win over Manheim Central


The Central York ice hockey team dominated Manheim Central on Wednesday night, winning 10-0 in Tier 2 action at Klick Lewis Arena.


The Panthers (2-2) took little time to get their offense going, scoring six goals in the opening period to jump out to a quick and convincing lead.

Central only added to its lead in the second period, scoring three more times to push its lead to 9-0 through two periods and then made it an even 10 goals with one in the third.

The Panthers had five different players register four-point games. Thomas Knapp had three goals and one assist, Anthony Tranchitella and Carter McCormack each had two goals and two assists and Luke Rohrbaugh and Chase Wagner had one goal and three assists.

Goalie Griffin Long made 16 saves to record the shutout.

Central York will have four days off before getting back to action against Manheim Township on Monday with a home game at York City Ice Arena starting at 7:15 p.m.


Spartans win first dual meet: The 10th-ranked York College wrestling team won its first dual-meet of the season on Wednesday night, downing Elizabethtown College on the road, 35-6.

The Spartans (1-0) won eight of the 10 bouts in the match, recording bonus points in six of those. Jeff Walker (149 pounds) and David Keith (165) both earned pins for York, while Joseph Sindoni (175) scored a technical fall and Dylan Nuttall (125), Greg Warner (141) and Jackson Drum (184) all scored major decisions.

Ryan Flynn (133) and Chad Wickard (157) also earned victories for the Spartans.

York College is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Camden Community College, Shippensburg and The College of New Jersey in three separate matches. The first is set for noon against Camden C.C., with the match against Shippensburg following that at 2 p.m. and the final match against The College of New Jersey scheduled for 4 p.m.
