Golfer gets ace at Briarwood for his sixth hole-in-one
STAFF REPORT
John Newswanger recently collected his sixth career hole-in-one.
Newswanger used a 5-iron to ace the 168-yard 12th hole at Briarwood East Golf Club.
"It was a pleasant surprise," Newswanger said. "I was in shock because I haven't been playing well recently."
Newswanger, who's 59 and from Lancaster, began playing golf when he was a teenager and played high school golf at Manheim Township and then for the men's program at Elizabethtown College. During his time in college, Newswanger actually made two holes-in-one in one week.
Right now, Newswanger said he's a 2 handicap despite being in a motorcycle accident a couple years ago that messed up his back and shoulder.
The feat was witnessed by Richard Phillips, Willy Adams and Jerry Phillips.
