GOLF: Steve Merrick wins Out Door men's championship

Steve Merrick recently won the Out Door Country Club men's golf championship.

Bob Newcomer was the runner-up.

Cindy Jay took the women's crown, with Lynn Newcomer coming in second.

The men's flight winners and runners-up were: First Flight, George Flinn, champ, and Brett Miller, runner-up; Second Flight: Steve Hovis, champ, and Mike Enriquez, runner-up; Third Flight, Jeff Christiansen, champ, and Al Schenkel, runner-up; Fourth Flight, Mike Jordan, champ, and Maury Bobst, runner-up; Fifth Flight (Green Tees), Joe Mancuso, champ, and John Spillman, runner-up.

The women's flight winners and runners-up were: First Flight, Karen Christiansen, champ, and Beverly Miller, runner-up; Second Flight, Connie Smith, champ, and Margaret Shaffer, runner-up; and Third Flight, Laurie Overmiller, champ, and Jan Jordan, runner-up.

The women's nine-hole flight winners and runners-up were: First Flight, Kim McGowan, champ, and Nancy Ahalt, runner-up; Second Flight, Sandy Wilson, champ, and Loretta Nolt, runner-up; and Third Flight, Hope Dougherty, champ, and Susan Ansell, runner-up.

GOLF NOTE

Spring Grove man has ace at Briarwood West: Chris Wentz had a hole-in-one on Tuesday at Briarwood West Golf Club.

Wentz used a 7-iron to ace the 133-yard fifth hole. It was witnessed by Jim Herman, Jeff Herman and Steve Sherman.
