York County horse Pure Country takes 4th at Cane Pace

Meadowlands Pace champion Control the Moment won the 1 1/8-mile Cane Pace for 3-year-old pacers, the first jewel in Pacing’s Triple Crown, by a length over Manhattan Beach in 2 minutes, 2.4 seconds on Saturday at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Pure Country, trying to become only the second filly to win the Cane Pace and first since 1960, gave a strong effort and was just nosed out of third place by JK Will Power.

Pure Country has won 16 of her 20 career starts.

The 3-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere, who has won 16 of 20 career races and earned more than $1.3 million, was driven by Brett Miller and is trained by Jimmy Takter for owner Diamond Creek Racing of Wellsville.

Diamond Creek also bred the filly, who was raised at the Wellsville farm.
