Another major golf tournament may soon come to southcentral Pennsylvania.

According to a Thursday news release, the Lancaster Country Club will "make an official announcement regarding the 2021 Solheim Cup" during a news conference on Tuesday, June 7.

It is expected that LCC officials will announce that they plan to make a bid to play host to the 2021 Solheim Cup.

LCC successfully played host to the 2015 U.S. Women's Open last summer. Last year's event attracted large crowds and the LCC layout drew rave reviews from the players. After that event, it was widely speculated that the club would make a run at another major pro golf tournament.

The Solheim Cup is a match play event that is held every two years. It pits the best American female players against the best female players from Europe.

The next Solheim Cup is slated for 2017 at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club.

The Gleneagles Hotel in PerthshireScotland will play host to the Solheim Cup in 2019.

The 2021 Solheim Cup site has not yet been announced, but it will played in the United States. Normally, Solheim sites are announced approximately four years before the event.

Also expected at the Tuesday news conference are: Jerry Hostetter, listed as the chairman of the 2021 Lancaster Solheim Cup Bid Committee, and Rory Connaughton, listed as the vice chairman of the 2021 Lancaster Solheim Cup Bid Committee.

Hostetter was the tournament's general chairman for last year's U.S. Women's Open at LCC, while Connaughton was on the Women's Open executive committee.
