BASEBALL: Mount Wolf's Mark Burnside hurls no-hitter

  • Burnside also had two hits at the plate, including a double.
  • Jesse Sargen and Kyle Sprenkle also had two hits each for the Wolves.

Mark Burnside threw a no-hitter to lead Mount Wolf to a 5-0 Central League triumph at Shiloh on Thursday evening.

Burnside struck out 11 and walked six, while also going 2 for 3 at the plate, including a double. Jesse Sargen went 2 for 4 with a double, while Kyle Sprenkle went 2 for 5.

The Wolves improved to 3-0.



Stoverstown 16, Dillsburg 2: At Stoverstown, Levi Krause (three hits, three RBIs), Zach Schuler (three hits, two RBIs), Austin Botts (two hits, four RBIs) and Brandon Warner (two hits, three RBIs) paced the Tigers' 16-hit attack. Krause homered, while Botts, Warner, Schuler, Nick Spangler and Joe Capabianco doubled. Anthony Lippy pitched four three-hit shutout innings to get the win, striking out seven without a walk. Jared Rahn had two hits for Dillsburg.

Glen Rock 8, Pleasureville 2: At Pleasureville, the visitors used two big innings to plate all eight runs, four in the second and four in the seventh. Dan Rogers powered the visitors by going 3 for 4, including a double. Also for Glen Rock, Luke Knott went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, Joe Young went 2 for 3, Dan Rhodes went 2 for 2 and Brad McCollough went 1 for 2 with two runs scored. For Pleasureville, Chet Haifley went 2 for 3, including a double, with two runs scored, while Adam Reed went 2 for 3.

Jefferson 3, Dover 0: At Jefferson, starting pitcher Steve Porter led Jefferson by throwing 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, while allowing just two hits. Porter struck out four, while walking seven. Collin Porter struck out the final batter of the game to get the save, while also hitting a double at the plate. Kurt Seiders went 2 for 2. For Dover, Cory Raber connected for both hits, going 2 for 2.



Conrads 4, Windsor 3: At Conrads, Rick Thompson powered the home team by going 3 for 3, including a two-run homer in the third and a solo homer in the fifth. Also for Conrads, Jackson Marshall had an RBI double, while starting pitcher Todd Shoff threw five innings, striking out three and walking two to record the victory. For Windsor, Tyler Myers belted a two-run homer in the seventh, while Cole Delp went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Brandon White doubled.

Red Lion 5, Felton 1: At Red Lion, Michael Carr came on in relief of starter Jake Wapinsky with the bases loaded and one out in the third inning. Carr was able to induce a ground-ball double play to get Red Lion out of the jam, protecting a 2-1 lead at the time. Tracy Carr and Alex Zelger led the victors with two hits each, Zelger added two RBIs. Cody Allen led Felton with two hits and Andy Taylor drove in its lone run.

East Prospect 12, Stewartstown 5: At Stewartstown, the visitors scored six runs in both the third and fifth innings to knock off the home side. Tanner Forry and Anthony Torreullas each hit homers for East Prospect. Stewartstown scored all of its runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Jacobus 6, York Township 1: At Jacobus, Mike Austin led the home team by going 2 for 3, including a double. Also for Jacobus, Drew Kelley went 2 for 4 with a double, Brian Hudish and Kerry Clark also doubled, while starting pitcher Mike Crowe threw six innings to pick up the victory. For Township, Micah Striebig went 2 for 4, including a double, and scored the lone run.
