Guests set for Hanover Sports NIght

STAFF REPORT

The guest list for the 27th annual Rotary Club of Hanover Sports Night has been set.

The event is set for Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services Social Hall just west of McSherrystown on Route 116.  There will be a dinner, presentations and a question-and-answer session.

The guests include Baltimore Ravens running back Justin Forsett, NFL offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and Lancaster Barnstormers manager Butch Hobson. There will also be a special meet and greet with the Red Land Little League baseball team.

Forsett has been the Ravens' featured running back in each of the last two seasons. In 2014, Forsett rushed for 1,266 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per attempt. In 2015, he rushed for 641 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. For his eight-year career, he's rushed for 3,599 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

Flaherty is a graduate of Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown. He's been assistant coach for several major college teams and several NFL teams during a career spanning nearly four decades. He had been the New York Giants offensive line coach for a dozen years under Tom Coughlin. When Coughlin resigned recently, the Giants hired Ben McAdoo as head coach and Flaherty lost his job. He wasn't unemployed for long, however. According to multiple reports, Flaherty was recently hired as the offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Last week, the 49ers hired former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly as their head coach.

Flaherty

Hobson is a former major leaguer who has been the Barnstormers' manager since the 2011 season. Hobson has taken four of his five Barnstormers' teams to the Atlantic League playoffs, including the 2014 league championship club. As a player, Hobson finished his major league career with a .248 average with 97 homers and 397 RBIs. His best year came in 1977 with the Boston Red Sox, when he hit .265 with 30 homers and 112 RBIs.

The Red Land Little League won the U.S. Championship this past season in the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

The Hanover Sports Night event starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30. A table of six can be reserved for $300. Tickets can be reserved by contacting Grant Holub at Adams County National Bank at (717) 339-5140.
