WILKES-BARRE, PA – The York College wrestling squad had a good day at the 2015 John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon in Wilkes-Barre.

The Spartans began the day by knocking off #7 Wilkes, 20-17. The Green and White then rolled past SUNY-Oneonta 41-6 and concluded the day with a tight 21-19 loss to #5 Ithaca. York is now 2-3 for the dual meet season.

The match against Wilkes was an exciting one. The Colonels jumped out to a big lead as they won the first four weight classes to take a 13-0 lead. Senior Cory Rank (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) got the Spartans on the board with a 3-2 win at 157 pounds. Freshman Frankie Krauss (Spring City, Pa./Spring-Ford) made it 13-6 with a 12-6 win at 165 pounds. Sophomore Mitchell Ramsey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) fashioned an impressive 15-3 major decision for York as the Green and White deficit stood at 13-10 with three weight classes left. Wilkes got a major decision at 184 to take a 17-10 lead. Sophomore John Shorter (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) earned a much needed major decision at 197 pounds. Senior Cody Mason (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) then won the match for the Spartans as he recorded a pin fall win at heavyweight in a mere 1:04.

The Spartans began the Oneonta match by winning the first four weight classes. Lake Laughman (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) earned a forfeit win at 125 pounds. Ryan Flynn (Eagleville, Pa./Marple Newton) posted a major decision win at 133 pounds as he earned a 16-3 win. Greg Warner (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) earned a 12-0 major decision win at 141 pounds as the York lead grew to 14-0. Isaiah McGowan (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Peter's Prep) picked up a 3-2 win at 149 pounds for York. The Red Dragons earned wins at 157 and 165 but the Spartans closed out the match with forfeit wins at 174 and 184 followed by pin fall wins by Shorter at 197 and Mason at heavyweight.

The match against the #5 Bombers started off well for the Green and White as Laughman won the 125-pound bout with a pin fall win, giving York a 6-0 lead. Ithaca answered with decisions at 133 and 141 followed by a win by fall at 149 as they took a 12-6 lead. Another win at 157 gave the Bombers a 15-6 lead. Krauss halted the Ithaca run with a major decision at 165. Ramsey then earned a forfeit win as the Spartans took at 16-15 lead. Back-to-back decisions for the Bombers gave Ithaca a 21-16 lead heading to the heavyweight bout. Mason picked up his third win the of the day with his 3-0 decision but that wouldn't prove to be enough as the Spartans dropped the two-point decision against one of the best teams in the country.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they head to Alliance, Ohio to participate in the Mount Union Duals. The Spartans will face the host Purple Raiders, Heidelberg, Baldwin Wallace and Washington & Jefferson in what would prove to be a busy Saturday. The action kicks off at 10:00 am.
