SUSQUEHANNA LEAGUE BASEBALL: First-place East Prospect earns pair of wins


East Prospect picked up a pair of wins over visiting Red Lion on Thursday evening to solidify its hold on first place in the Susquehanna League.

Prospect earned a 3-2 win in nine innings in the completion of a suspended game and then grabbed a 5-2 victory in a regularly scheduled contest.

In the completion of the suspended game, the visitors plated the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Mark Schauren led the visitors by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Also for Prospect, Ryan Saxman went 2-for-4, including a double, with one run scored; Devin Strickler went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI; Hunter McVey went 1-for-1; and Dylan Stoops doubled. For Red Lion, Mark Shoff went 2-for-4, while Tyler Taylor and Brady Taylor each tripled. Shoff also threw all nine innings, striking out 12 and walking five.

In the regularly scheduled game, Terry Godfrey led the home team to the victory by throwing a complete game, striking out five and walking two. He allowed no extra base hits. Also for Prospect, Sean Rigney connected for a solo homer, while Ryan Saxman went 2-for-4 with one run scored and Mark Schauren went 1-for-2 with one run scored. For Red Lion, Nate Senft went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Tyler Taylor went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Tracy Carr went 1-for-1 with one RBI and starting pitcher Mark Shoff threw five innings, striking out eight and walking two.


Hallam 8, Windsor 6: At Windsor, Jaron Shimmel led the visitors by going 2-for-3, including a game-winning homer in the top of the sixth. Shimmel also pitched the final three innings in relief to pick up the win, striking out five and walking one. For Windsor, Andy Taylor and Matt Robinson each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Shawn Wilson doubled with two RBIs, Rick Thompson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Nolan Myers and Ian Hartman each doubled.

Conrads 16, Felton 0: At Felton, the visitors got a shutout from Andrew Stambaugh in his Susquehanna League debut. The Dallastown High School graduate struck out five and walked two while allowing just four hits. Brandon Miller excelled at the plate for the winners, slugging two hits, including a homer, to go with six RBIs and two runs scored. Jackson Marshall (three hits, two doubles, three RBIs, two runs), Justin Berkstresser (two hits, two runs, RBI) and Joe Yourgal (two doubles, two RBIs, run) also shined for Conrads. Logan Whitman had two hits for Felton.

Stewartstown 8, Jacobus 6: At Jacobus, Cody Brittain slugged two homers and drove in six runs for the visitors, who earned a surprising win. Jason Mitchell pitched a complete game to get the victory. Mike Austin homered for Jacobus, which fell to 19-7. Stewartstown improved to 13-13.
