LETTER: Support Hellam's Smart Growth candidates
Please vote for Smart Growth candidates Michael Martin, Stephen Wolf and Bill Sprenkle for supervisors in the Hellam Township primary election on May 19.
Smart Growth allows for new businesses and job creation while preserving valuable farmland and the rural character of our township. This tax-saving, balanced growth has enabled our township to provide excellent public services (police, fire, ambulance and road maintenance) without raising taxes for the past 12 years. These candidates support our local farmers and the Horn Farm, which serves as a valuable educational and training center for growing future farmers and provides space for community gardening.
I cannot support Phil Smith and his running mates, because Smith, as a former supervisor, supported zoning regulations that would have allowed absentee landowners to pave over large areas of prime farmland in our township, including the Horn Farm, with sprawling developments. Now he is back, asking voters to trust him and elect a "fresh face". Don't be fooled. Smith and his supporters must not be allowed to put our township at risk again.
Vote for experienced, proven leaders you can trust. On May 19 vote for Smart Growth-endorsed supervisor candidates Michael Martin, Stephen Wolf and Bill Sprenkle.
