This is in response to Deana Weaver’s letter to the editor attacking the Second Amendment, the NRA and Rep. Scott Perry.

Where to begin? Let's start with Weaver's obvious contempt for the congressman.

Why was she so upset that the town hall meeting was canceled? Was it because they wanted to disrupt it like the one at Red Lion this past March? Across the country, the left shows up at these events to shout down the speaker. This is borderline fascism and is an attack on the First Amendment, "the right to peaceably assemble to redress our government for grievances."

Now to her attack on the Second Amendment and the NRA. When I lived in New York City, I tried to get legislation like Project Exile introduced. It was supported by the NRA and was used successfully in Richmond, Virginia.

Project Exile brought the murder rate down from the second highest per capita, to the second lowest per capital. It prosecuted the criminal in federal court with no plea bargaining. The criminal was then sentenced to federal prison for seven years, which kept the felon off the street. I was told no because New York had just repealed the Rockefeller Drug Law due to the racial demographic of those sentenced.

Weaver fails to mention these policy decisions when citing statistics on gun violence. Children are killed by stray bullets because the leaders of these cities will not introduce legislation like Project Exile. Oh, by the way, I lived it with three small children, praying that the gunshots I heard wouldn't go through my house.

While I'll defend her right to express her views, the left’s fascist attacks on the First Amendment at town hall meetings have to stop.

I stand with Perry and his staff.
