LETTER: Wagner-Appell comparison is insulting

The July 6 editorial states that Scott Wagner may be one of the people to fill Mr. Appell’s shoes because he LOANED several hundred-thousand dollars to a charter school and has worked with a food bank.

Mr. Appell GAVE AWAY many times that amount every year for decades. He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle man. Given some of his recent antics, I would not describe Mr. Wagner that same way.

It is clear to me that the Dispatch’s editorial board did not know Mr. Appell. Its comparison insults Mr. Appell’s life and legacy.
