LETTER: Median pay for politicians

The York Dispatch
Capitol Hill

"On Friday, I voted in favor of H.R. 5325, the FY17 Legislative Branch appropriations bill. This fiscally-responsible legislation increases Capitol security and also reauthorizes a 100 percent pay freeze for Members of Congress, in place since 2010, but must be renewed annually or it expires. A serious commitment to cutting spending starts with leading by example," stated Rep. Scott Perry, R-York County, in his most recent email update.

In case you haven't heard, other people are being forced to take pay cuts or even take lessor jobs in an attempt to make ends meet. They don't have the choice of retaining their current earnings and in the spirit of that, I think that any servant of the people shouldn't be paid any more than the median pay of their district. That way they have a real incentive to work hard for their constituents’ well-being.

Lead away.
