There is no small measure of irony in the appearance of two front page articles this newspaper earlier this month — ‘He was going to war with police’ and ‘Perry: Limit actions on guns.’

The first article revealed that a disgruntled man had purchased parts on-line to construct an AR-15 assault rifle, along with materials to build improvised explosive devices, with the intent to use those items to kill his ex-girlfriend and as many state police troopers as he could.

The second article explained that our Republican congressman, Scott Perry, has introduced legislation to prevent the president from expanding background checks to include individuals who purchase guns or parts privately, at gun shows or on the Internet.

What we can conclude from those articles is this: An angry man used the loophole in the gun purchaser background check law to further his plan to kill his ex and as many state troopers as possible — and that Congressman Perry has introduced legislation that could aid someone like this alleged would-be killer.
