York Symphony Orchestra's momentum builds
As the York Symphony Orchestra continues to prepare for the 2015-16 season, "In Nature's Realm," I can't help but reflect on the exceptional amount of support we have received from the community.
The tremendous momentum the entire organization feels as we move into a season filled with energetic and inspiring performances is overwhelming. I speak for the entire organization when I say "thank you" to everyone who has reached out to offer support, purchase a subscription or ticket, or simply taken the time to learn more about the new York Symphony Orchestra experience.
Last year, during my inaugural season, we explored the idea of "New Beginnings" and embarked together on a new adventure that included dynamic changes to programming, a new approach to concert presentation and a new ticket pricing structure. As a result, we had the opportunity to introduce new audiences (especially families with children) to the symphony and enjoyed the pleasure of performing to full houses throughout the entire season. We're proud to say that the ever-growing audiences we saw last year equated to an astounding 921 percent increase in single-ticket sales over previous seasons.
We are excited to see that momentum continue as we move toward the October start of the 2015-16 season. In the first 12 weeks of subscription sales, we have seen a 42 percent increase in total subscriptions over all of last year, and we expect this number to grow as subscription sales continue through the early part of the season.
Many subscribers are electing the new "Pick 5" option, which allows them to customize their season by selecting any five performances, including classical, pops and this season's historic fully-staged opera production. This reinforces that our approach of providing a diverse and varied season is one this community is excited to rally behind. We are also encouraged by the response in the first several weeks of individual ticket sales and look forward to continued growth and interest as the season approaches.
I am honored to be York Symphony Orchestra's music director, and the simple words "thank you" can never be enough for the support this entire community has shown over the past year. Since the organization's founding 82 years ago, your advocacy and patronage have been critical to our ability to successfully achieve our mission to create and share amazing music. We are excited to share the 2015-16 season with all of you and look forward to seeing you soon.
