Route 425 bridge to close at end of July

Construction work on the Route 425 bridge in eastern York County will start at the end of July, closing the bridge for more than two months.

The bridge, which spans Fishing Creek between Lower Windsor and Chanceford Townships, will close the week of July 31 and will remain closed until construction is completed in mid-October, according to a news release.

During the construction, drivers will be directed to use a detour along Richmond Road, also known as Route 2035, and Burkholder Road, also known as Route 2014, the release states.

The bridge on Route 425, which also is New Bridgeville Road, appears on the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s list of structurally deficient bridges.

The Route 425 bridge is one of 558 bridges, including 15 in York County, being replaced under PennDOT’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a public-private initiative between the state agency and a consortium of businesses called the Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners.
