Toomey held 3-to-1 cash edge over McGinty with 4 months left
HARRISBURG — Republican incumbent Pat Toomey headed into the last four months of Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race with three times the campaign cash as Democratic challenger Katie McGinty, even after outspending her three-to-one in the latest period.
Campaign finance filings available Wednesday from the Federal Election Commission tracked spending and fundraising through June 30.
For April 7 through June 30, Toomey raised $3.25 million including transfers and spent $4.7 million, leaving him with $7.7 million. McGinty reported raising $2.9 million including transfers and spending $1.5 million, leaving her with $2.4 million on hand.
Going back to last year, Toomey’s campaign has spent about $12 million, while McGinty’s has spent just over $4 million.
An influx of campaign cash from outside groups may be more important. Those groups have spent or committed tens of millions of dollars in Pennsylvania’s Senate race.
