Clinton campaign opens York City office
York County Democrats won't have to go far to help presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton win the White House.
Clinton's campaign, in conjunction with Pennsylvania Democrats, opened on Tuesday an office located at 11 E. Market St. that will serve as a hub where staff and volunteers can coordinate election efforts.
Organizers and volunteers will hold phone banks, organizing meetings and canvasses from the office.
"“Building on her strong support in the primary, we're in communities across the Keystone State energizing and mobilizing voters to elect Hillary Clinton in November. Our organizing team and dedicated volunteers are talking with voters across the state about her plans to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top," Corey Dukes, Hillary for America Pennsylvania director, said in a news release.
Also on Tuesday, Clinton was endorsed by former Democratic rival Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Clinton, the former secretary of state, is expected to accept her party's nomination during the convention in Philadelphia later this month. She is expected to face Republican Donald Trump in the Nov. 8 general election.
GOP: Alex Shorb, chairman of the York County Republican Committee, said he hasn't received any indication that the Trump camp will open a campaign office locally.
Rather, the state Republican Party, which is helping with the Trump campaign, will use the York County GOP headquarters, 2453 Kingston Court, Suite 101in Springettsbury Township, as a staging ground of sorts during the election, Shorb said.
But as the election progresses, Shorb said Trump could open a local office.
Locally, York Republicans held a training program on Saturday to jumpstart a grassroots initiative for the Trump campaign.
"The feedback we're getting from members is it was very beneficial," he said.
