Police fatally shoot man said to be damaging cars

SOUTH WHITEHALL, Pa. – Authorities in Lehigh County say a police officer shot and killed a man who witnesses say was damaging cars and interfering with traffic.
WCAU-TV reports the shooting happened shortly after 5:45 p.m. Saturday in South Whitehall Township after police were called about the man, who witnesses say had broken the window of a vehicle and done other damage. An officer confronted the man and later opened fire, hitting him at least once.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. His name hasn’t been released.
Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin says the “police officer rolled up on the scene, encountered the gentleman and unfortunately had to use his weapon and shot him.”
An investigation is continuing.
