Authorities say the man swiped the 5-gallon donation jar from the Darby Free Library Wednesday morning.

Darby Borough police Chief Robert Smythe says a library worker tried to stop him, and he pushed the woman and dragged her down a flight of stairs.

Library employees tell WXTF-TV 60-year-old Joyce Taylor suffered a broken back in the assault, and she is recovering in an area hospital.

Authorities say the suspect is homeless and he is known to frequent the area.

The search for the man is ongoing.
