PHILADELPHIA – Bitter wind chills are sweeping across Pennsylvania as parts of the state are digging out from a snowstorm.

Don't fear the bomb cyclone. But beware the polar vortex.

Motorists across the state are urged to use caution on Friday because of icy conditions.

Forecasters say the cold temperatures, combined with gusty winds, will make it feel like the thermometer is in negative double digits.

Speeds have been reduced on the Walt Whitman and Ben Franklin bridges in Philadelphia and the pedestrian walkway on the Ben Franklin also is closed.

Many schools around the state are closed or have delayed opening because of the biting cold or cleanup from the snow.

City offices in Philadelphia are closed Friday in order to keep people home.

SEPTA is operating on a Saturday schedule on Friday.
