Ambulance carrying Pa. officer from fire collides with tow truck
MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. – Authorities say an ambulance carrying a Pennsylvania police officer from the scene of a house fire was struck head-on by a tow truck, injuring three paramedics and tossing the officer around in the back of the emergency vehicle.
The police chief in McKees Rocks says the officer was being taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation when the crash happened Wednesday morning.
Chief Richard Deliman says the officer had been on patrol when she noticed the house ablaze and went to help.
He says the officer suffered only minor bumps and bruises in the crash but didn’t know the condition of the paramedics. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A spokeswoman for Allegheny County says the road where the crash happened had been treated to give drivers better traction.
