PHILADELPHIA — A Pennsylvania Republican powerbroker was found dead in the Delaware River.

.

Police recovered the body of 83-year-old Fred Anton of Philadelphia on Thursday, one day after he was reported missing. The medical examiner is trying to determine how he died.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports police said the leader of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association was suffering from undisclosed medical issues and depression.

Former Gov. Rendell says at his peak, Anton could make or kill a bill if he wanted to. Anton worked on Rendell’s transition when he was elected Philadelphia mayor in 1991.
